President Obama hit hard at the cost of college education in a speech, calling for the Congress of the Union to extend the tax credit for College and student loan interest discontinuing of doubled in July.
State of the Union address Tuesday night, and continue to stress the importance of excellent teaching in K-12 education.
He called on States to raise compulsory education to age 18; calling on Congress to extend tax credits for College, to stop the interest rates on student loans than double in July, and to pass the dream Act; and issuing a threat to the institutions of higher education that fails to keep costs in check and maintaining costs.
“Let me put the colleges and universities on notice: If You can’t stop riding, dana College from which You got from the taxpayers will come down,” said Obama. “Higher education cannot be a glamour-is an economic necessity every family in America should be able to. “
It is not clear, however, from the Obama speech-and the blueprint the Government send out later-exactly how he plans to carry out this threat.
